Amy Mazola, from Detroit, Michigan came to Key West with her friends to fish aboard the Mr. Z out of the A and B Marina. We missed a Mahi Mahi right off the bat that took our bait but forgot the hook.
We did manage to catch Bonita, and Barracuda back to back and got things going pretty quickly, but no one was more surprised than Capt. Craig to see that big old Sail stick his head out of the water only 20 feet behind the boat! The Sailfish was a bit picky as he looked the baits up and down before he finally settled on the left rigger. Capt. Steve was way ahead of the fish and threw the reel into free-spool before the Sailfish ate the bait and the fish didn’t feel a thing until the line came tight. Amy had the fight of her life on her hands as everyone offered her advice on how to win this battle. After 15 minutes, the Sailfish had been boated, photographed, and released unharmed. Excellent work, Amy, and we hope to see you next year.
