I've been on the Mr. Z a few times in real shitty conditions. (Gail force winds, etc.) These guys still managed to make it work. Can't wait until July to come back. The deep drop was fun as hell and we still got dolphin trolling in big waves. You get what you pay for. Best crew and boat in Key West.

Rob Brown, of course, how could I forget the Defender of Justice... Wasn't he the guy with the good weed? Just kidding, that's for another story!

OK, I showed this photo to a lot of people, but one person in particular, Capt. Theodore Baer of the charterboat "Lethal Weapon" who caught a 777 pound Mako and hung it on the dock back in the 80's here in Key West. He's also caught huge Hammers, Sawfish, Swords etc. His conservative estimate from just the pics is over 500 pounds. His words, not mine.

Hey Craig, I don't mean to nit pick, but that handsome guy holding the grouper is Rob Brown, Defender of Justice. Also I would like state that the Mako shark we caught might have been 9 ft down Florida , but here in Philly, the construction estimators have it as 14ft, 350 lbs. Before the tales are done being told I can see it growing to over 16 ft easy. Thanks for a great time. See you next year. Rob

Thanks for the good thoughts. The Mako story is still in the writing, but I will post the pic that I took. Please motivate Tom to send the pics he took with the shark jumping in the air.
Thanks,
Craig

Hey Craig, first I would like to say hope your son is feeling better, I know the helpless feeling of my child being ill and not being able to do anything about it. I can't stop thinking about our "FISH OF A LIFETIME" experience on Mr. Z this past Thursday, an experience I will never forget. I never knew a Mako shark could jump 15' - 20' out of the air, and if that didn't get my heart pumping sticking that gaff in his tail end sure did. The best way I could explain it was like the signs at the amusement park "this ride is not intended for those who have a heart condition.
                            " WOW WHAT A RIDE !!!!
Say thanks to Capt. Steve for keeping his calm cool personality during that wild ride, it was mayhem there for a few moments,(all of us guys got so excited when we saw that fish jump the height of the boat.) And boy did he spring into action when it hit the lure. A pro job from start finish!!
We'll be back next year, if you'll have us. And we'll recommend you to anyone thinking about fishing in Key West!!!
By the way sorry for bending your heavy duty 8' gaffe
